A small group show featuring contemporary textile artists based in Santa Fe, New Mexico: Alysha Colangeli, Rhiannon Griego, and Emelie Richardson.
A collection inspired by the high desert landscape and wild femininity; celebrating the centuries-old weaving tradition in Northern New Mexico.
"Textile art historically has been a means of weaving narratives, both figuratively and literally. For a gallery intent on telling stories, I couldn't pick a more fitting medium to spotlight for an inaugural show. Historically, textiles have suffered as an art media because of their association with domesticity and femininity. My aim for this show is to turn this narrative on its head, elucidate the innate wildness in femininity as demonstrated by these artists and works, and contribute to a greater conversation about the value and perception of textiles as fine art in a gender-biased art world."
— Kelly Dye, Gallerist
Rhiannon Griego is a textile artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rhiannon has found harmonic resonance in the philosophies of Saori Zen Weaving, a tradition she studied and has practiced the last 10 years. It’s free form, wabi sabi nature has moved her to create dimensional landscapes and perfectly imperfect worlds within her textiles.

Emelie Richardson’s handwoven works blur the boundaries of traditional craft and painting. In Emelie’s handwoven paintings, chance and improvisation have become integral elements to the laborious process of weaving, in which fluid line and form cannot be easily controlled. Allowing the materials to play a large role in informing the work, Emelie highlights spontaneous subtle shifts in surface texture and tonality. Emelie currently lives and works in Chimayo, New Mexico.

INFORMATION
-
In her patchwork pieces, Alysha combines her passion for natural dyeing with the ancient Korean textile art of Pojagi. Each patchwork piece is entirely bespoke, and can be made especially for you and your space. Inspired by the shifting sunlight in the high desert, the colors and shadows within each patchwork piece transform in the dancing light of the day.
-
You can commission one of Alysha’s handmade patchwork pieces, in a custom size for your home. Once the palette, materials, and dimensions have been chosen, please allow 4-6 weeks for each bespoke piece to be created.
Disclaimer: Due to the art of natural dye, final colors may vary from samples.
